The weather had turned cold and a biting wind pierced my face.  My head and, indeed, my whole body throbbed in pain.  Another bitter winter and another migraine were setting in.  I would soon be reduced to crawling into bed for the next two days until the headache passed.  I felt despair and fear and anxiety hitting me hard.

Despite buying a lovely farm on the edge of Yellowwood State Forest in beautiful Brown County and finding some success as an artist, my world was crumbling.  All the money in the world is worthless without one’s health.  And I felt utterly miserable and hopeless.

The next few years were a journey in seeking optimum health.  A journey filled with many ups and downs, set backs and step ups.

But I persevered and today, I enjoy fabulous, pain free, energetic health.  No drugs or surgery.  All natural methods, strategies, and techniques.  Like peeling away layers of an onion until all I had left was glowing health.

One constant in the journey was my daily three mile hike in the forest that borders my property.  Walking in the forest was the touchstone of each day.  I always felt better deep in the woods.  The peaceful quiet of the forest was perfect for thinking, praying, meditating, planning, and dreaming.

Not only did I hike in the forest, I painted the forest, “en plein air”, in all four seasons.  I wanted to capture that beautiful energy and transform it into oil paintings to enjoy year round, for generations to come, in our living spaces.

The Japanese promote the idea of “Forest Bathing”, recognizing the healing, transformative power of the forest.
